We’re back! That was quick, huh?

“We’re so excited” sounds trite, but it’s also true. We’ve really missed you. Really.

There are so many great things about going to Kyxy. First of all, the station is owned by broadcasters. This is a big deal. Most radio stations in America are not. They’re owned by venture capitalists and non-broadcast companies. They don’t care if they own a radio station or a hardware store – they just need it to make money no matter what. Kyxy is owned by a little company you may know about.  Their headquarters is in Manhattan.  They are called CBS. They have been in the radio entertainment business for 83 years. Last November Jeff and I went to New York to meet with the folks who operate CBS. We loved these guys from the first minute. They “get” radio. Hallelujah! What a difference! Additionally, Kyxy is managed by one of our dearest friends, “Uncle Bob” Bolinger. Bob is the finest radio manager on planet earth; we’ve worked with him before and are so happy to be back with him again.

But mostly, this is about you and us and our love affair with San Diego. Never once did we consider leaving our hometown Not for a second. During the next week or two we’ll catch up with each other – find out what we’ve all been doing, and get back down to having fun with you on the radio every morning. Like we’ve been doing for a long and wonderful time.

Karla Peterson from the UT asked us in the interview for today’s paper if we were ever worried or scared that we wouldn’t be back on the air here.  My answer; “Not for one second.”  Through this entire time off things have happened in my life that could not have happened if I were working.  I know without hesitation that this was all God’s perfect timing.

We come back to the radio humbled, eager and appreciative.  We are ready to start from zero and earn your support.  We are ready to make you laugh, to make you think, to speak to your heart, and to hopefully be invited into your homes, cars and workplaces to try to make a difference in your lives.

And we are also blessed that we found a job on the perfect radio station to carry out that mission.  KYXY’s founding premise is to be entertaining, but always in a family-friendly way. That feels just right to me. Plus even more exciting about working at KYXY… I drove my wife Kristen by the studios this week and found out they turned the Expo right down the street into a Costco! Woohooo!

During the first week of the showgram, we are each going to get a morning to update you on what’s gone on in our lives while we were off.  I told Karla that while we were off Jerry was named to the national board of a major animal group, Tommy was instrumental in the effort to enact legislation to protect our children, and I … gained a bunch of weight.

Well, there’s more, but I’m saving that for my morning on the radio.  Meanwhile, a few sneak peaks -

There’s more.  I have stories to tell you and I can’t wait to talk to you and with you on the radio.  Plus, I’m excited about being on the radio now more than at any time I’ve ever been on.  Our show has always been about you being the stars.  In the past we’ve done that by putting your phone calls on the air.  Now, with social media, we can interact with you in a whole new way while we’re on the air.  That access and interaction excites me and breathes new life into what we do in the morning.

I always say that the difference in our radio show compared to others is that we are five people who wake up in the morning and don’t think the world sucks.  Thank you for giving us the chance to do that again.  I am anxious, and grateful.
