Some stuff on my mind. Let’s share, shall we?

Hi Ya Kids,

Gee, I think we had the best “Live From Jerry’s Garage” show ever today. We’re only supposed to be on for half an hour, but we ran 45 minutes – that’s how much fun. Hope you chuckleheads enjoyed it, too.

First – and this is HUGE, trust me, especially for all you wonderful, compassionate darlings who helped on Proposition 2 last year. On behalf of the Humane Society of the U.S. and San Diego’s incredible Animal Protection and Rescue League myself and dozens of other asked UCSD if they would switch to cage-free eggs beginning this semester. (Proposition 2’s cage-free provision doesn’t go into effect until 2015). We met with the marvelous people at the UCSD Housing, Dining and Hospitality Division: Mark Cunningham, Krista Mays and Yvonne Macon. We asked if they’d consider using only cage-free eggs in the 3 million meals they serve every year. They were WAY ahead of us and were already considering it. (Our polls showed the students and faculty were overwhelmingly in favor of the compassionate move. APRL was on campus for weeks distributing information about cruelty-free eggs and getting petitions signed). Last spring, I met with Mark, Krista and Yvonne and they told me the great news. UCSD is now a cage-free egg university. Additonally, they are now using fair trade coffee, tea and sugar. Trust me, gang. For those of us (including you) who are working to protect animals, this is just ENORMOUS! My thanks, yours and the gratitude of the animals being saved from terrible suffering go out to the kind and compassionate folks at UCSD. They’re excited to be working with Wilcox Farms to provide Certified Humane Raised & Handled Cage-free eggs. Wilcox was there last week answering questions about their eggs & they brought along this happy friend (seen here with Registered Dietitian, Becky McDivitt, & Executive Chef, Vaughn Vargas.9127_169334025114_599525114_4128863_5597480_n

By the way – you should join both HSUS and APRL. HSUS is the largest and most effective animal proection organization in the world. 30% of all Americans are members. Go here: www.hsus.org And APRL? I can’t say enough about these incredible local people. Join them too, please. Go here: www.aprl.org

I decided yesterday (as I listened to it) that the greatest vocal performance in rock history is by Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant on “Whole Lotta Love”. Hands-down winner. No debate. Finished. Done. Zip it.

halloween_imageIt’s Halloween. I talk about Barbarella Restaurant every year on the radio and want to remind you to go and take your kids! It’s almost Disney’s Haunted Mansion good. OK – kinda almost. But you will LOVE it. It’s at La Jolla Shores on Avenida de la Playa. Call for reservations. (858) 454-7373. I’d give this the “Jer-an-tee” but I know you clowns would go in there and order $800 worth of wine and stick me with it just for laughs.

Looks like almost positive now we’ll be back on the radio in January. Sorry it will be so long, but there ain’t nuthin’ we can do about it. But at least we are coming back, yes? Every time we do the “Garage Show” we realize how much we miss being together and being with you guys.

Another Garage Show next week. Dunno when yet. But you can watch the first 3 anytime on demand on the website.

Love you guys,
Jerry
